Bordeaux to Bezier - a group tour

From the neo-classical elegance of Bordeaux's waterfront to a beach on the Languedoc coast we follow a route that takes in Gascon villages, Cathar martyrdoms, La Ville Rose, Abbey cloisters, canal aquaducts, Carcassone's citadel, Roman relics, vin de pays and cassoulet -  Whether you choose Edith Piaff, Jaques Brel or something more contemporary for your soundtrack, the countryside is timeless as the landscapes transform through vineyards to maize and orchards and on to wheat and sunflowers before reverting to vineyards (now with olive trees and sage).

450kms (280 miles - yes, it sounds more manageable in miles) over a week that provides for most days finishing about 4pm after a leisurely lunch break  and with a  half-day before La Cite at Carcassone (below)so it can be savoured.

Sounds too much? You do a ride of about 25miles on a Sunday and think that is your limit? Get on the pedals right after breakfast and by the time you have reached the lunch stop you will have done more than that ....  and after lunch you will simply cruise to your overnight. No worries.

Not every overnight has a swimming pool – at some places you have to make do with a jacussi or hamman and at Toulouse there is no alternative but to spend the late afternoon exploring that ancient city and comparing restaurant menus until finally hunger forces you to make a decision.

In 2012 we will ride the route twice - in April and September. April's tour is one day less in duration with therefore a slightly higher daily distance and that difference in distance and support level makes a difference both to the cost and the locations where we stop for the evening.
